Archbishop Ranjith who is the Secretary for the Congregation For Divine Worship and the Sacraments was interviewed in L’Osservatore Romano, the Vatican newspaper, as saying that one of the reasons that the Holy Father decided to give greater access to the Tridentine Mass was because of the lack of respect among Bishops and Priests in following the Liturgical Norms. It will be interesting over the next few years to see how this all plays out.

Actually, over the next 5-10 years.
The spin is in from Bishops who resist Papal authority–that the MP was issued principally to “lure SSPX members back.”
But B-16 has a long-term game plan, not likely to be impeded by the small minds who resist.

Dad29,
What about the large minds that resist?

If bishops and priests and the average lay person don’t feel a need to picky about the GIRM, maybe that’s the spirit moving. And where are all these disobedient bishops? I like to meet some. They sound like my kind of guys.

Largely in England, but then there’s a rumble that USCC will issue “guidelines.”
And it’s not surprising to read that “large minds” are inclined to be disobedient. Been that way since the very first “non serviam.”
(If you need help translating that Latin, feel free to call.)

If bishops and priests don’t feel a need to be picky about the GIRM, and the average lay people doesn’t feel a need to be picky about showing up for Sunday Mass, maybe that’s cause and effect moving.

Fatherless,
I see the Awakening the Spirit Evangelization Conference is February 8-9, 2008 in Kohler. Might you be attending? And then blogging about it?

Actually, I know some of the people planning this event and it seems that it will be done well. If I cannot go, I will get some information from those who did go.
